Many tire producers, such as Bridgestone and Goodyear, release tires not only under the main brands belonging to premium segment but also under the brands of the second line oriented to those who would like to save a little during the next change of rubber. Such choice is how justified, have decided to find out in Automobile club of Europe which together with the Austrian autoclub and the German society of technical supervision has carried out the next tests of tires for summer season. The American company Goodyear tires Fulda and Sava represent this time, the Japanese corporation Bridgestone - Firestone tires, and the French Michelin - inexpensive Kleber. Besides, tires Maxxis from the Taiwan Cheng Shin have been taken, and for them this test will give excellent material for use in marketing activity.
Has been decided to begin with the major discipline for summer tires - braking on wet covering, and this year any of nine participants of the test has not shown bad results in this part of tests. At air temperature at the level of 20 degrees the braking distance of tires has made from 26,5 to 28,8 m, that is all tires have quickly enough stopped Audi Q2 from 80 km/h. At the same time experts has tested also cheap tires whose results, unfortunately, for some reason have decided not to specify completely, and their brake distance has made nearly 33 m, that is economy on tires can seriously worsen safety level.
Following the results of controllability tests on the wet surface of the tire it is possible to divide into three groups. Kleber, Firestone and Hankook have appeared among lagging behind as they have tendency to side withdrawal, and at big speeds the lack of coupling is swept up. In the middle of the table Apollo were placed, Avon and Toyo which in general behave is balanced, but during sharp maneuvers can sharply lose coupling that is fraught with negative effects. Maxxis has such tendency too, but it is not so brightly expressed, as at three specified tires. The best in this discipline of Fulda and Sava steel from the Goodyear company which have pleased with good informational content and high side stability. As experts have noted, tires of these two models quite could compete to tires of more expensive bonus brands.
In the following test the resilience of tires to cross hydroplaning was evaluated. The car passed turn with pool of 7 mm in depth, and in this situation key role is played by the drawing and tread depth. First place was won by Maxxis which began to lose coupling only at the speed which is almost reaching 90 km/h whereas, for example, Hankook akvaplanirovat already at 80 km/h.

In the braking efficiency test on dry covering the car was stopped from 100 km/h, and the premium class tires taken as referens have slowed down through 35 meters. Maxxis and Kleber have shown almost same result whereas it was required to tires Fulda, Firestone, Hankook, Apollo and Sava 1,5 m more. In this respect Toyo and Avon which have slowed down only through more than 38 meters became the worst. At the same time and it is rather good result unattainable for winter and the majority of all-weather tires.
In respect of controllability on dry surface all tires were approximately identical and to make rating, Audi Q2 had to be brought to coupling limit constantly. And even in such conditions the behavior of tires differed only in nuances. The group of leaders has included Maxxis, Sava, Hankook, Fulda and Toyo which quickly responded to turns of wheel and reliably held coupling even in technically difficult sections of track. The best time of circle was shown by Maxxis whereas Sava, Hankook, Fulda and Toyo have not much more lagged behind premium class tires too. Apollo, Avon, Kleber and Firestone were less effective, and the driver had to taxi up more often to remain on the necessary course, but nothing critical has been noted, and in everyday life of the tire will optimum cope with the tasks on the dry road.
In the tests which do not have relations to safety that is in tests for rolling resistance and noise outside of the car, differences between tires were very essential. For example, rolling resistance of Firestone and Toyo differed almost for 25%, that is the car on Toyo will consume 0,3 liters more fuel each 100 kilometers. As for the price, in Germany the tested tires cost from 63 to 97 euros apiece, that is difference quite notable. Cheaper only budget Chinese or renovated tires cost, and experts have promised to study them in more detail in the nearest future.
Tires of brands of the second echelon from the leading producers have shown good results, however victories have deprived of them this time, and tires Maxxis which effectively work both on dry, and at wet covering and according to the characteristics as experts have noted have made it, are close to tires level premium. Tires Sava which have confirmed that inexpensive tires from large corporations can be very interesting option have got the second place. Results of tires of the Korean Hankook which have taken the penultimate place became disappointment this time. It was possible to expect the best from tires of this producer, and besides these are tires of the main brand of the company which has the brand of the second line under the name Laufenn too.
The size of the tested tires is suitable for such cars as Audi Q2, DS4, Opel Insignia, Peugeots 407 and 508, Seat Ateca, Š to koda Superb and Karoq, Subaru Forester, Suzuki SX4, Toyota Avensis and Mirai, VW Passat, etc.
