Review

When the tread depth reaches the minimum value, and during rain, the traction-control bulb begins to light up constantly, it becomes clear that it is time to change tires. And it is a pity, experts as at each erased millimeter characteristics on dry covering begin to improve note - the braking distance becomes shorter, and reactions to turns of wheel quicker and more precisely. At the same time coupling on wet covering and any who went to rain by tires with the erased grooves sharply decreases, it will confirm.

As the tread depth of new summer tires averages 7 mm now, they are capable to provide the necessary resistance to hydroplaning. At the same time only one this parameter does not say yet that tires really guarantee safety in rainy weather, and results of inexpensive tires Nankang became an example of it in the new test. On the track covered with a 7-millimeter sheet of water, Nankang has shown absolutely the best resilience to hydroplaning in tests both 19-, and 20-inch tires results of the second test in the following material). All rivals from the premium segment lost speed at much smaller speeds. Anyway, as it was only one of nine disciplines of Nankang, as a result, have lost all advantage. Big emptiness in protector has reduced the area of a spot of contact and as a result, have worsened controllability and braking efficiency of Nankang both on dry, and on wet covering, and eventually tires of the Taiwan brand have taken only the last place.

The first places in the test of the tire of the R19 sizes 245/35 R19 and 265/35 have occupied tires with the most balanced characteristics which have sports character, allow to derive pleasure from driving and guarantee optimum safety. Continental, Hankook and Michelin have gathered a large number of points owing to what tires of these three brands receive assessment "Is exemplary". At the same time it should be noted that some tires have impressed with "individual skill", and these are, for example, Falken which were the most effective on wet covering. The difference in length of brake distance with Nankang has made nearly 13 meters that is where Falken will already stop the car, the car on Nankang will continue to move with speed nearly 50 km/h.

Controllability on dry covering

BMW M2 is not for nothing equipped on the conveyor with tires as wider tires on rear axle increase coupling in acceleration time, and also improve stability of stern of the car. Best of all this concept works in the case with Continental, Michelin, and Hankook whereas Nankang on the entrance to turn to push front part of the car aside, and at the exit afford sharp drift on the rear axle.

Braking on dry covering

The big spot of contact of tires with the road reduces the length of brake distance, and the best in this discipline of Continental, Hankook, Falken and Michelin steel. At the same time, Toyo and Nankang which have wide main grooves of protector and the reduced contact spot cannot provide the same level of safety. In the case with Nankang situation, even a little frightening as their braking distance is more, than at the best tires, on the distance equivalent to a car length.

Noise/comfort

The powerful M2 6-cylinder engine initially has to publish pleasant growl so nobody waits for silence. On the other hand, It should be noted that Falken provides surprisingly good comfort of the course.

Profitability

Sports tires also should not be economic, but if to speak about the theory, Hankook will be able slightly to reduce fuel usage in comparison with Nankang.

Resistance to hydroplaning

It is more difficult to wide tires to hold coupling on the surface covered with a large amount of water and during the test, the aquaplaning began already at 85 km/h. At the same time, Toyo and Nankang with the big hollowness of protector are more effective in similar conditions.

Controllability on wet covering

According to experts, on tires, Falken sports M2 goes on a wet track, "as on rails" what they also receive the first place for. Even Continental unexpectedly have much conceded to tires of the Japanese brand on wet covering as at them coupling on rear axle could be lost sharply. Good value judgment in this important discipline has also received Hankook and Michelin.

Side stability on wet covering

On the irrigated circular track Falken and Continental which finished "the head in the head" have best of all proved to be. At the same time and here Falken could overtake a little one of immemorial favorites of tire tests. Nankang which are inclined to understeer is content with the last line.

Braking on wet covering

Length of brake distance on a wet surface - one of the major indicators allowing to evaluate whether tires are capable to ensure necessary safety. The best were Falken and Michelin which Continental and Hankook have a little lagged behind. Result of Nankang recognized absolutely unacceptable.

Estimates for the tested tires are presented in the table

Note: Marks are put down on the German school scale: 1 - perfectly, 6 - it is unsatisfactory. In each case, it is necessary to consider ponderability. If the tire receives in the disciplines concerning safety (braking and controllability on wet and dry covering, and also resistance to hydroplaning) assessment is worse 3+ or the general assessment in any category it is worse 2-, then it loses the opportunity to receive final rating "Is exemplary".
