Winter tires are special product which has to work effectively in the most different conditions, including at snow, wet and dry covering. If to add here that consumers expect that tires will have ability to save fuel, low level of noise and high resource it becomes clear that to create good model really difficult.
Now, as winters in Europe became less snow, producers of premium class have concentrated generally on strengthening of coupling on dry and wet covering. This direction is validated also by road accident statistics which shows that most often accidents happen to tragic effects on these two types of surface less often on snow.
In winter season of 2018 several tire tests therefore only six models have taken part in tests of passenger winter tires are carried out at once. At the same time experts have taken care of that all price segments have been presented. So, in category "premium" Goodyear which are considered as one of the best in the class and also the new Bridgestone possessing design of Run-Flat allowing to continue the movement in case of air loss have been chosen. The mid-price segment is presented by tires Uniroyal and Vredestein, and budget - the Polish Debica and the Chinese Wanli.
This time the test on snow has been carried out in the Swiss Alps where tires are tested, for example, by the German ADAC. In turn tests on asphalt have been carried out on one of the best proving grounds of Germany. All measurements were taken by means of the special equipment, and the experienced pilot having experience of participation in motorsport drove.
RESULTS OF TESTS
Braking on snow.
Debica win first place, but the result of Uniroyal differs on only 0,1 m. In general all tires have shown good results.
Thrust effort on snow.
Debica and Uniroyal again the best, and have dared to lag behind the others only tires Bridgestone a little.
Acceleration on snow.
In this discipline the composition of rubber mix is more important than tread pattern, but first place is won all the same again by Debica and Uniroyal.
Controllability on snow.
Debica confirm the domination in tests on snow, holding the first places in all four disciplines.
Braking on wet covering.
On the irrigated route two tires of premium class became the best. At the same time Debica which have perfectly acted in tests on snow show catastrophically bad results here.
Resistance to longitudinal hydroplaning.
First place is won by Goodyear, but they have only a little bypassed tires from Uniroyal. Results of Debica and Wanli - very weak.
Resistance to cross hydroplaning.
When the car gets to pool in turn, can throw out it aside, and the overloads which are capable to sustain tires in such situation are higher, the driving during rain will be safer. The best in this plan it is necessary to consider Goodyear and Uniroyal.
Side stability on wet covering.
Two bonus tires leave competitors behind, and Debica has very weak cross coupling on wet covering.
Controllability on wet covering.
The pilot passed distance on limit of coupling of tires in this test, and the time is better, the tires in respect of brake properties, side stability, etc. are more effective. Again two most expensive tires became the best.
Braking on dry covering.
The difference in 4 m between results of Bridgestone and Uniroyal means that residual speed will equal 30 km/h.
Controllability on dry covering.
Premium tires again ahead, but actually differences between all tires were not such essential.
Riding qualities on dry covering.
The pilot evaluated reactions to turns of wheel, road-holding ability, behavior of tires at rerate at high speeds and nervousness on coupling limit.
The comfort was evaluated on specially prepared covering, and the maximum number of points was received by Uniroyal.
All tires have approximately identical rolling resistance, and influence on fuel usage will be small.
Differences between tires were minimum and to catch them in passenger compartment it will not turn out.
